[edit] Open2x firmware
This is a placeholder page for the Open2x firmware documentation.
TODO: Flesh out page and add more notes/background.
[edit] Releases
See developer releases for more info.
[edit] What is the firmware
The complete Open2x firmware consists of a bootloader, Linux kernel and filesystem image (built using buildroot that can be flashed to the GP2X or in certain circumstances run from an SD card in the unit. People may opt to take all of part of the firmware offering depending on there requirements.
At the moment the firmware is still in active development however the aim is to get end user installable firmware available in the near future.
[edit] Firmware features
The firmware aims to offer a number of features above and beyond that offered in the stock GPH GP2X firmware.
Some feature areas are listed below.
- Very good compatibility with the stock firmware (we would like 100% but that may not be possible)
- Included TinyX X windows server
- Recent gLibC version
- Support for midishare
- SDHC support
- Newer Linux kernel
- Improved Joystick input module (see here)
- Dynamic linking support for recent versions of GCC
TODO: Add more feature areas.
[edit] Current compatibility
The Open2x firmware aims to be very compatible with existing GP2X applications however with the current test releases there are a few issues that need to be bottomed out.
To view a dated list of the outstanding issues please review the CompatabilityIssues topic.
